Comparative pathological studies on motile Aeromonas infection in Oreochromis niloticus with referring to their treatment.

Abstract: Groups of Oreochromis niloticus fish were collected and experimentally infected with three members of motile aeromonads (Aeromonas hydrophila, A.sobria, and A. caviae) to compare between their pathogenicity, haematological response, pathological changes with trial of treatment of such infections. The main clinical signs, haematological variation and pathological changes occurred in a descending order from the more virulent isolate A.hydrophila infected group to A.sobria to lesser extent in those inoculated with A.caviae. The main pathological changes of the infected fish were haemorrahgic signs. Haematological parameters showed decline in the number of erythrocyte and leucocyte cells, heamatocrite and heamoglobin content. Serum total protein, Na + and K + levels were significantly decreased, while serum bilirubin, serum urea, ALT and AST levels were increased. Degenerative and necrobiotics alteration as well as haemorrhagic changes were seen in the examined organs . Treatment with oxytetracyclin (75mg/kg body weight) for 10 successive days medicated food displayed of great success in recure of clinical signs and decrease of mortality rate. The observed adverse effects of tested bacteria on blood and serum constituents returned to their normal levels one week post treatment.
