Studies on pigeon pox naturally and experimentally infected in North Sinai.

Abstract: Pox virus was isolated from nodules from 120 naturally infected pigeons (squabs and adult pigeon) collected from different localities in North Sinai. All birds were emaciated and had nodules on eyelids, base of the beak, neck, wing and ventral abdomen. The pox virus was isolated by using chorio allantoic membranes of embryonated chicken eggs. The experimental pigeons were inoculated with 0.1 ml/squap of virus suspension by using wing web and follicle methods. All birds infected showed typical cutaneous from of pox. Reisolation of the virus on (CAM) and histopathological examintation of the skin lesion from naturally and experimentally infected pigeons which showed intracytoplasmic inclusion bodies (Bollinger bodies) in the epithelial cells of the skin.
