Comparison of different procedures for estimation of immunological status of newly born calves before and after colostrum feeding

مقارنة بعض الطرق المختلفة لقياس الحالة المناعية فى العجول حديثة الولادة قبل وبعد تناول السرسوب

Abstract: this study is trial to focus light on the immunoloical status of the newly born calves before and after ingestion of colostrum . this was done by use three different methods including ; estimation of serum total protein level , determination of total immunoglobulins by sodium sulphite precipitation test ( s.s.p.t ) and protein fractionation by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis the blood were collected from 18 apperantly healthy calves in an inesively managed diary farm 7 days in sharkia governorate , just after birth before succkling and 24 hours 2.3.and 7 days after suckling colostrum .
serum total protein was found low at birth then , it markedly increased postcololstral ingestion to reach its maximum level after 24 hours albumin level was elevated precolostral ingestion and decreased after 24 hours al pha-globulin showed higher levels at time of birth but after colostrum in take it decreased . beta-globulin concentrations were not affected by colostrum ingestion . newly born calves are born with low levels of gammaglobulins in their sera but their levels markedly rose 24 hours post -colostral inestion . the serum of the calves contains the lowest amount of total immunoglobulin befora ingestion of colostrum and its levels increases rapidly after cololstrum intake . so it is important the newly born calves to secure the colostrum from their dams as soon as possible as it represent the principle mechanism by which young calves acquire maternal immunity the comparison of three methods for assessment of the transfer of maternal immuniglobulin to the newly born calves showed that . the protein fractionnation by electrophoresis is the estimation serum total is not recommended
