Assessment of salinomycin residues in both fresh and cooked tissues in broilers.

Abstract: The aim of this study is to evaluate accurate withdrawal time for salinomycin when mixed with ration in broiler chickens . one hundred and five ,one day old hubbard chickens were used , they were divided into equal three groups . Salinomycin were mixed to the ration at a dose of 60 , 90 & 120 p.m.m respectively for 42 days then fed on salinomycin free diet for 7 days later . Five birds from each group were slaughtered at 0.6.24.48.72.120&168 hours post drug withdrawal and samples were collected from tissues and internal organs. Salinomycin residues were measured in both fresh and cooked samples using thin layer chromatography ( TLC ). Results revealed that , salinomycin residues can be detected in beast and thing tissues for 6 hours post drug withdrawal which disappeared by cooking by the different methods . Meanwhile, it could be detected in liver and kidneys samples for 48 hours post drug withdrawal but disappeared from fat heart and gizzard after24 hours from drug stoppage. These residues degraded by boiling and roasting but decreased by frying .so, it can be conculuded that when salinomycin used as a preventive measure against coccidian in chicken it should be stopped three days pre-slaughtering for economic and health effects on the consumers beside boiling and roasting is satisfactory method for degradation of the drug .
