Toxicological and pathological studies on acrylamide neurotoxicity in albino rats

Abstract: Acrylamide is a neurotoxic chemical . it is considered to be protypical among chemicals that cause central and peripheral distal axonopathy. this study was conducted to study the acrylamide neurotoxicity in albino rats . the first group served as untreated control ; while the others were daily administrated spinal cord and sciatic nerve were obtained at each time of sacrification . there were congestion and hemorrhages in the central and peripheral nervous tissues . the brain and spinal cords showed and necrosis of nerve cells and swelling of axons . it induce decrease in neurotransmitter enzyme and has a cumulative effect especially in sciatic nerve.
