Changes in Egyptian Agriculture under World Trade Organization

Abstract: Arab Republic of Egypt is one of countries which has a leading and effective roal amoung the developing countries which are members of the world trade organization Adopting world trade organization agreement results several changes on the Egyptian agricultural sector and the Egyptian economic structure. The Egyptian economic structure did not relize the targeted progress specially in increasing the current valuing of exports. This negative import could be realized when reviewing the trade balance. Its difset increased from $8.230 million in year 1995 to $12000 million in year 2000.
The study aimed to study the effect of world trade organization on the Egyptian agricultural sector by comporins the economic changes in the agricultural sector before and after the world trade agreement. The economic change in the value of agricultural production, value of agricultural ingruts and net agricultural income have been studied for the tow period (90-1994) and (95-1999).
Studying the change on national investment and agricultural investment showed an increase in these value. The rate of increase different from period to another concerning national investment. It amounted to 144.8% through the period (90-1994) compares to 73.6% through the period (95-1999).
Concerning agricultural investment, the rate of increase during the first period amounted to 88.9% compares with 164.4% during the second period.
The relative importance of agricultural labor decreased with difference rates during the tow periods. It amounted to 33.83% in the first period while it amounted to 28.62% in the second period.
Both component of the trade balance Export and Import during the tow periods have been studied in addition to them relative importance. The study showed that the most important agricultural Export crops are Cotton, Rice, Potato, Orange, Vegetables and Fruits. The study showed also that the most important agricultural import are Wheat, Flare, Yellow corn, Frozen meat, Milk, Milk production, Sugar, and Livestock.
Studying export and import values showed an increase in the exports value during the period after accepting the world trade organization agreement.
