Market performance of the exports of some Egyptian fruits

Abstract: Agricultural commodities export promotion is an essential economic aim of the Egyptian society. The research aimed at studying the position of the market performance of oranges and grapes as two of the major fruits in Egypt, and to put a vision for the future exporting possibilities for two crops them according to the comparison between some marketing performance like market share and markets penetration so as to making a targeting process for some market which have high exporting possibilities. Comparing market penetration with market share for orange, the study revealed that Netherlands which ranked first between countries importing Egyptian oranges according to market penetration, but it ranked the eighth and last rank according to market share which indicate increasing possibilities for oranges exports promotion.
The study concluded market performance for Egyptian oranges exports as expressed as market share tended to decrease in the tradition importing markets for long period like Russia from Eastern Europe countries and Saudi from Arab countries as Saudi Arabia which ranked third according to market penetration so there is not increasing possibility for exporting promotion for this market.
East Asian countries is considered relatively recent markets for Egyptian oranges, and it is considered promising market, especially Singapore market which ranked second according to market penetration, and it ranked fourth according to market share.
As for market performance of Egyptian Grapes, the study revealed that the rank of market penetration of Egyptian Grapes in the EU market exceeded the market shares so it was concluded hat there are high possibilities for increasing Egyptian grapes for those markets.
As for Arab countries, the study revealed that there is a high possibility for increasing Egyptian exports as for United Arab of Emirates as it ranked second according to market penetration and it ranked fourth according to market share. The African countries are relatively recent markets in importing Egyptian grapes, Kenya and South Africa ranked first and second according to market share, but they ranked fourth and eight according to market penetration.
The study revealed some recommendations as follows:
1. To direct exports according to targeting process for capable markets to absorb the commodities imports.
2. To direct oranges exports toward EU Markets, like Netherlands and U.K as there is future possibilities for them, and Singapore market conditional minimizing marine transportation costs to make prices competitive.
3. To direct grapes to EU countries like U.K, Netherlands and Germany, as there is future possibility to promote Egyptian grapes to those countries and to some Arab countries like United Arab of Emirates.
