Extractable phosphorus and potassium in relation to some extraction methods, some soil properties and their uptake by barley plant

Abstract: This work aims to study the relations of soil available phosphorus and potassium with the extracting powerful of four chemical agents “used to extract them”, some soil properties as well as their uptake by barley plants under the conditions of Egyptian soils. For fulfilling this research a lot of surface soil samples were collected from fifteen sites located in some Egyptian Governorates. The studied chemical agents were AB+DTPA, NH4OAc, Distilled Water, and NH4F+HCl. In addition, a biological test was carried out to study the correlations between the extracted amounts of available P and K and their amounts which uptake by barley plants. The obtained data showed that: - 1) The powerful of these agents for extracting-P arranged in the descending order of: NH4OAc > AB+DTPA > NH4F+HCl > Distilled Water, while the descending order of these extractants for available–K were: NH4OAc > NH4F+HCl > AB+DTPA > Distilled Water. 2) The amounts of P-extracted by Distilled water and K-extracted by NH4OAc were the highest correlated with the same amounts of them which taken (uptake) by barley plants. 3) The role of some soil parameters, e.g. CaCO3, EC, pH, O.M and soil texture content on the powerful of the studied extractants was depending on the type of extracting agent and the element under investigation
