The socio-economic level and its relation with the rural family reproductive behavior in sharkia and Beni-Suef governorates

Abstract: The study aimed at determining differences in reproductive behavior among husbands and wives in the rural family, identifying the characteristics of both husbands and wives under study and determining the reproductive behavior patterns for husbands and wives in the rural family, and differences among them, in addition to identifying the relationships of socio-economic level as well as reproductive behavior with some causal variables , identifying the value of direct and indirect effects of personal and family variables on socio-economic level and reproductive behavior of husbands and wives under study, finally, proposing a causal module to identify the path relation between some personal and family variables and both the socio-economic level and reproductive behavior of husbands and wives under study.
The research was carried out in Arab Darwish village , Fakous district (markaz) Sharkia governorate, Lower Egypt, and Bani Haroon village, Bani Suef district (markaz) Bani Suef governorate, Upper Egypt as they are considered the largest villages in number of families, as they reached 2494 families and 1858 families, respectively. Morgan equation was used to determine the sample size for each village. with a total of sample 186 families in Arab Darwish village, 182 families in Bani Haroun village. Data were collected through personal interview questionnaire. and statistically analyised by T-test, simple correlation coefficient and partial standard regression coefficient.
The most important research result was a significant difference at 0.01 in the reproductive behaviour among the husbands and wives under study. The results also revealed that the great majority of respondents fell between medium and high category and low category of rational reproductive behaviour of rural family out of the total sample. In addition to increase in husbands percentage with high category of rational reproductive behaviour as compared to the wives
More over, results indicated that variables with direct effect on the reproductive behavior for husbands were marriage duration, desire in self assertion , cosmopolitaness, husband's age, number of children, where they reached to 0.512, 0.495, 0.324, -0.266 and 0.264 respectively .
Finally, the variables with direct effect on reproductive behavior for wives were: where they family age mean marriage duration, wife's age, number of children, fatalism where they reached to 0.311, -0.302, -0.259, 0.213 and 0.209 respectivey.
