Diffusion and adoption of some agricultural innovations among citrus farmers at districts of mettobis and and Desouk in Kafer El-sheikh Governorate[Egypt]

Abstract: The study aims mainly to identify diffusion and adoption levels of some agricultural innovations among citrus farmers at districts of Mettopis and Desouk in Kafr El-sheikh Governorate through achieve the following specific objectives: 1- To identify some distinguished characteristics of fanners. 2- To determine diffusion level of some agricultural innovations,. among respondent citrus farmers. 3- To determine adoption level of some agricultural innovations among respondent citrus farmers. 4- To determine correlation relationship between some distinguished characteristics of respondent farmers independent variables and diffusion level of some agricultural innovations of citrus as dependent variable, land explaining the variation in this studied dependent variable. 5- To determine correlation relationship between some distinguished characteristics of respondent farmers as independent variables and adoption level of some agricultural innovations of citrus as dependent variable, and explaining the variation in this studied dependent variable. 6- To determine the reasons which lead respondent farmers t continue in their adoption of some agricultural innovations concerning cultivating citrus. 7- To determine the reasons which lead respondent farmer discontinuity their adoption of some agricultural innovations concerning cultivating citrus.
8- To determine the problems facing respondent farmers concerning adoption of citrus agricultural innovations, and also their suggestions to get rid of it from their points of view. Study data was collected by using personal interview questionnaire, from a systematic random sample amounted 274 respondent farmers representing about 98% of the target sample which was 280 farmers represent about 30% from the total number of citrus farmers at Mettopis and Desouk districts (study population was 934 farmers). Study data was analyzed statistically by using frequencies, percentages, arithmetic means, standard deviation, both of simple; and multiple correlation coefficients, partial regression coefficient and standard partial regression coefficient. The main results of this study could be summarized as follows: A- field of citrus irrigation: Study results indicated that nearly 86% of I respondents were come in both moderate and high categories of total knowledge level, about 77% of them were-come in both moderate and low categories of total adoption level concerning innovated technical recommendations in the, field of citrus irrigation. B- Field of organic and Bio-fertilization in citrus: The results cleared that about 87% of respondents were come in both moderate and low categories of total knowledge level, while. nearly 92% of them were come in both moderate and low. categories of total adoption level concerning innovate technical recommendations in field of citrus organic and bio fertilization. C- Field of citrus integrated pest management control: Study results showed that nearly 86% of respondents were come in both moderate and high categories of total knowledge level, while about 80% of them their total adoption level were either moderate or low concerning innovated technical recommendations in field of citrus organic and bio-fertilization. D- Field of ideal handling in citrus: Study results indicated that about 71% of respondents were come in both moderate and high categories of total knowledge level, while nearly 94% of' them their total adoption level either moderate or low regarding innovated technical recommendations in field of citrus producing and handling. E- Respondents total knowledge level with innovated technical recommendations of citrus producing and handling: Stud": results revealed that nearly 92% of respondents their total knowledge level with innovated technical recommendations of citrus producing and handling were either moderate or high. F- Respondents totals adoption level of innovated technical recommendations of citrus producing and handling: The results showed that about 90% of respondents their total adoption level of innovated technical recommendations of citrus producing and handling were either moderate or low. - Study results revealed that the main reasons to continue adoption of some technical recommendations were as follows: Concerning field of citrus irrigation, protection from diseases of gummous, root-rot, and lechions, narrowing loss of irrigation water. Concerning field of organic and bio fertilization the reasons were decreasing production costs, and increasing production. Concerning field of integrated pest management control the reasons were decreasing of harmful pests, and wise use pesticides. Concerning field of ideal handling the reasons were increasing net return of crop, and facilitation for marketing the crop. 6- Study results showed that the main reasons, discontinuity adoption of some technical recommendations. were as follows: In field of Irrigation appearance the salts up surface of farm land, and insufficient irrigation water regarding trees needs. Concerning field of organic bio and fertilization the discontinuity. reasons were shortage both organic fertilizer, bio fertilizers an the required active mixed (Eml) to make the compost, concerning field of integrated pest management control discontinuity reasons were shortage both bio pesticides, bio herbicides, and number of phytosanitations, concerning handling the reasons were, dealing
between citrus exporters and both wholesalers and brokers only without farmers, and lack of marketing information about citrus crop. 7-The problems facing respondent farmers concerning option of citrus agricultural innovations, and their suggestion to get rid of it: Study results revealed that the main problems were as follows; Concerning irrigation unsuitable methods of irrigation to
'nature of citrus trees and faun land for appearance the salts up and surface, concerning organic and bio fertilization the main problems were lack both organic and bio fertilizers and required
active mixed to make compost, concerning integrated pest management control, the main problems were lack of specific bio pesticides, bio herbicides and adequate number of plytosanitations. Concerning handling the main problems were 'dealing between citrus exporters and both of wholesalers and brokers without fanners, and absence cooperative society of citrus producers for marketing the production through it. Respondent fanners mentioned some suggestions to get rid of these problems from their points of view as availability both of gepsum, maintainance agricultural draining, organic and bio-fertilizers, required active mixed (EMI) to prepare the compost, bio pesticides, bio herbicides, phytosanitations and insect tops, dealing directly between citrus farmers and exporting companies, and establish marketing cooperative society to market citrus crop through it.
