A study for some variables related to unemployment of literate rural youth in two villages located in Sharkia and Giza governorates

Abstract: The main objectives of this study are to: identifying differences in unemployment between literate rural youth, into two cultural and geographic sub-region, in the Delta (Sharkia Governorate) anti Up-pee Egypt (Media Governorate); distinguishing relationship between literate rural youth unemployment and each of the following independent variables: gender, age, marital status, major study, post-graduation duration, part-time job, temporary job duration, family type, family size, age average of family members, educational average of family members, land ownership, family commercial activities; to analyzing the effect of some independent variables in explaining variance in literate rural youth unemployment; and exploring respondents recommendations, and suggestions in solving this problem.
The study was conducted in two villages in Sharkia and Giza Governorates. The respondents were selected randomly from the local unit records, with key informants' help, to represent 20% of the literate unemploye youth in the two villages (187 respondents). Questionnaire and personal interviews were used in collecting data. T-test, Pearson correlation coefficient, Chi-square, and step-wise forward multiple regression were used in analyzing the data.
The study finding indicated a significant relationship at 0.01 level) between literate rural youth unemployment and the following independent variables: age, family commercial activities, post-graduation duration, and temporary work duration; and also a significant relationship (at 0.05 level) with the following independent variables: family size, and educational average of family member. The study findings also indicated no significant differences between educated rural youth unemployment in Sharkia and Giza Governorates. Sixty six percent of the dependent variable (literate rural youth unemployment) was explained by the combined effect of four variables: temporary work duration, post-graduation duration, family commercial activities, and family size. Job opportunities, small credits, and new land ownership are the main recommendations of respondents to solve their problems.
