Effect of feeding different levels of green forages and complete rations on productive performance of ruminant animals.

Abstract: This work was carried out in Department of Animal Production, Faculty of Agriculture, Zagazig University and EI-Gemaiza Experimental Station, Animal Production Research Institute, Agriculture Research Center, Ministry of Agriculture.
The obtained results summarized as following:
I -The average dry matter intake were 70.51, 70.46 and 66.95 g / kg W0.75 for rations C (60% CFM+ B.H ad lib), T1 (60 % CFM + Kikuyu grass ad lib) and T2 (40 %''CFM + Kikuyu grass ad lib) by rams fed 1st cut and were 61.77, 60 16 and 61.24 g /kg W 0.75 for the same rations by lambs fed 2nd cut.
2-The average digestibility coefficient of DM, OM and CP of rations T1 and T2 were significantly (p < 0.05) higher than those of C ration. Also, CF, EE and NFE took the same trend without significantly differences through 1st cut of Kikuyu grass. Also with the 2nd and cut of Kikuyu grass the digestibility coefficient of all nutrients of T1 and most nutrients of T2 were significantly (P <: 0.05) higher than those of C ration.
3- The average nutritive values as TDN, SE and DCP % were
the best with the ration containing Kikuyu grass (T1 and T2 ) than
control ration ( C). The highest values of nutritive values were obtained withT1 ration for 1st and 2nd cut of kikuyu grass.
4- The N- balance was positive by sheep feed rations containing
Kikuyu grass (T1 and T2 ) for 1st and 2nd cut.
5- The average daily dry matter intake (kg) were 1.263, 1.348 and 1.266 for three groups feed rations C, T1 and T2, respectively.
6- The final body weight of lambs feed rations containing Kikuyu grass (T1 and T2) were 47.00,44.80 kg compared with control rations (C) 43.20 kg.
7-The average daily body gains (DBG) were 0.174, 0.198 and 0.181 (kg) for the three groups fed rations C, T 1 and T 2., respectively.
8-The average dressing percentage based on fasting live weight were 53.0 1, 54.08 and 54.57 % for the lambs fed C, T1 and T2 rations., respectively. While, based on empty weight were 64.36, 64.95 and 64.48 %.
9-The eye muscle area (cm2 ) were 18.33, 19.66 and 17.00 for the lambs fed C, T1 and T2 rations, respectively. The tenderness (cm2) were 3.78, 3.98 and 3.58 for the lambs fed C, T1 and T2 rations, respectively.
10-Economical efficiency values were 2.41,3.04 and 3.56 for ration C, T1 and T2.. respectively.
II-The total yield (ton / fed) of Kikuyu grass as fresh, DM and CP were 35.70, 7.78 and 1.15., respectively.
12- The different rations did not effect on blood parameters of animals and were in the normal range.
In conclusion, the results of this study showed that feeding growing lambs on Kikuyu grass ad libtum with two levels of concentrate feed mixture (60or40%) led to improving of most digestibility coefficients, nutritive values, live body weight, daily body gain, feed conversion, dressing percentage and decreasing feed cost of I kg growth.
