Improved weed control on Maize by Herbicide Mixtures
|
|
Abstract: Field experiments were carried out for two seasons to determine the efficiency of certain single herbicides , herbicide mixtures and handhoeing on weed control grain yield components of maize . The hand – hoeing treatment , atrazine (0.75 kg / fed . ) and atrazine mixtures (I . e . atrazine at 0.75 kg + Linuron at 1 . 0 kg . atrazine at 0.75 kg + cyanazine at 2.0 kg and atrazine / cyanazine at 2.0 kg / fed ) gave the best control of broad-leaved weed , while other single herbicides I . e . pendimethalin at 1.7 1 / fed and linuron at 1 .0 kg / fed . gave significantly in ferior weed control than that of the hand hoeing treatment in both season . Hand – hoeing was also the best treatment for the control of grasses in both season , atrazine mixtures gave also good results in this respect . Hand – hoeing was the most effective treatment in controlling total weeds and was not significantly different from atrazine mixtures but in the season only . Yield and yield components of maize obtained by atrazine mixtures was not significantly lower than that obtained by hand- hoeing treatment in both seasons
