Phytochemical and toxicological effect of certain plant extracts against potato tuber moth, Phthorimaea operculella and green peach aphid, Myzus persicae

Abstract: Phytochemical constituents were separated and identified at the length ethanol and hexane extracts of arial parts of Peganum harmala (Harmal) and pelergonium graviolens granum and green potato crusts of potato tuber Solanum tuberosum. The evaluation of plant extracts done at the length of dipping and residue film against both Phthorimaea operculella larvae and Myzus persicae nymphs. It is clear that, Harmal extract contained carbohydrate and/or glycocides, tannins, saponins, alkaloids, flavonoides, but sterols and/or triterpenies exist in slight positive.
On the other hand granum extract have carbohydrate and/or glycocides, tannins, saponins, sterols and/or tritepenies, alkaloids, but flavonoides exist in slight positive. Green potato crust contained carbohydrate and/or glycocides, tannins, alkaloids, but, saponins and sterols and/or triterpenies exist in slight positive. Green potato crust has not flavonoides. Dipping technique is more effective to both Granium and Green potato crust than residue film against PTM. The tested extraction could be arranged descending as the following Granum, Green potato crust and Harmal (76.6,70.0 and 65.6) mortality % at the conc. 120 ppm, respectively according to phytochemical analysis, sterols and/or triterpenis exist in Granum more than Harmal and Green potato effective against newly hatched larvae of potato tuber moth. In respect to Myzus persicae, dipping technique for Green potato crust, Granum and Harmal recorded 76.6, 63.3 and 56.6 reduction % at concentration 200, 3200 and 4000 ppm, respectively.
