Some genetic parameters for some litter traits in bouscat and californian rabbits raised in Egypt.

Abstract: Data of 1198 litters from 176 does fathered by 43 sires and mothered by 114 dams of Bouscat Rabbits and 725 litters from 103 does fathered by 13 sires and mothered by 37 dams of Californian rabbits were used in this work. Data were analyzed for each breed separately using single-trait animal model to estimate heritabilities, repeatabilities, and permanent environmental effects on some doc litter traits. These traits were litter size, litter weight and mean bunny weight per litter traits at birth (LSB - LWTB - MBWTB), at 21 days (LS21 LWI'21 - MBWI'21) and at weaning at 30 days (LSW - LWTW - MBWTW), respectively in addition to number dead per litter from birth up to 21 days (ND21) . and from birth up to weaning (NDW).
Means were 6.8, 5.5 and 4.7 young for LSB, LS21 and LSW, respectively; 324, 1631 and 2485 gm for LWTB, LWT21 and LWTW, respeCtively; 53.8,304.3 and 580.0 gm for MBWTB, MBWT21 and MBWTW, respeanely; 3.2 and 3.7 young for ND21 and NDW, respectively; in Bouscat rabbits, the corresponding mean were 6.7,5.6 and 4.8 young for LSB, LS21 and LSW, respectively; 354,2101 and 2573 gm for LWTB, LWT21 and LWTW, respectively; 53.0 , 416.0 and 654.0 gm for MBWTB, MBWT21 and MBWTW, respectively; 2.3 and 2.9 young for ND21 and NDW, respectively; in Californian rabbits.
Etimates of heritability, repeatability and permanent environmental effect were:. in most, of low or moderate magnitude and were slightly higher in Californian rabbits than in Bouscat ones. Also, estimates of heritability and repeatabilily had reasonable standard errors.
