A note on relationship between Yersinia group and Brucella group of micro- organisms.

Abstract: The relationship between Brucella group and Yersinia group of microorganisms was studied . For this study, 600 samples ( 200 faeces, 200 serum and 200 milk) were procured from apparently healthy cows. 2 ( 1 % ) isolates Yersinia enterocolitica were obtained . They were serotyped as Yersinia enterocolitica 0:9. Seven ( 3.5 % ) isolates of Brucella were procured from milk and were typed as Brucella melitensis . biovar 3. By comparative studies of the level of antibodies of both Brucella and yersinia enterocolitica 0:9, 7 ( 3.5 % ) samples cross-reacted between Brucella and yersinia enterocolitica 0:9, from which 5 ( 2.5 % ) samples were positive for isolation of Brucella . Bacteriological and serological tests must be done to differentiate between yersinia and Brucella.
