Rabbit growth performance and some blood parameter as affecting by using sunflower seed in their diets

Abstract: Seventy two New zealand White (NZW) rabbits aged forty days were distributed into four groups of 18 rabbits each.
The rabbits were fed four different diets for 7 weeks. The first group was fed the control diet (0 % sunflower seed ), while the other groups were fed diets with three levels of sunflower seed ( full-fat raw) 5,10 and 15% as a source of energy and protein. All diets were formulated to be nearly isoenergetic and isonitrogenous. A digestible trail was conducted at 13 weeks of age. At the end of the experiment three rabbits from each treatment were slaughtered. Blood samples were collected and carcass traits were estimated and recorded. Results obtained showed that feeding rabbits diets including sunflower seed (SFS) up to 10% increase the digestible coefficients of CP, EE and CF significantly (P<0.05). the nutritive values of the diets expressed as TDN were significantly (P<0.05) increased, while DCP insignificantly affected, however, it was slightly increased with SFS inclusion. Levels of serum total protein significantly increased (P<0.01) in rabbits consumed diets including SFS. Live weight and feed consumption were significantly increased (P<0.05) by increasing SFS in the diets. In addition. Feed conversion efficiency was significantly improved (P<0.05) in rabbits fed diets containing 10 or 15% SFS. Dressing percentage insignificantly increased in rabbits fed 10% SFS than other. The economical efficiency values of the diets including 5,10 and 15% SFS were raised by 8.07,11.82 and 9.49 % respectively.
