Some physiological and reproductive aspects of Baladi Red Buck Rabbits fed

Abstract: A total of 45 bucks and 60 does Baladi Red rabbit was used in the present study to investigate the effect of Fenu greek or Nigella Sativa as feed additive on alleviating heat stress and improving reproductively of rabbits, during hot summer months Buck rabbits were divided randomly into three equally homogeneous groups, one of these groups was kept untreated as a control and was provided with a commercial diet according to NRC(1977) recommendations, while the other two groups were fed the same diet but contained 5% Fenugreek or Nigella Sativa, respectively. In the fertility trials, doe rabbits were classified randomly into equally homogenous three experimental groups and mated naturally with experimental buck groups.
The results obtained from this work showed that, values of body temperatures of heat stressed Baladi Red buck rabbits represented by ear lobe, skin and rectal temperatures and also respiration and pulse rates decreased significantly ( P< 0.05) due to feeding on diets contained 5% fenugreek or Nigella Sativa.
Eating diets contained 5% fenugreek or Nigella Sativa improved significantly P~<0.05) libido and semen quality and characteristics of Baladi Red buck rabbits, during summer season. Kindling rate and litter size and weight at birth values of doe rabbits naturally mated by using bucks fed diets contained 5% Fenugreek or Nigella Sativa were significantly ( P< 0.05) better than those mated by control buck group.
The results also showed that, the rabbits received Nigella Sative were insignificantly superior than Fenu greek group in alleviating heat stress. Libido and semen quality.
