Alleviation of heat-stressed growing rabbits by using some feed additives under Egyptian condition

Abstract: The experiment was carried out in the Rabbitry Farm of the Department of Animal Production Faculty of Agriculture Zagazug University. Egypt , during December, 2000 to January, 2001 (as winter season) and during July to August, 2001 (as summer season). One hundred and forty male New Zealand White rabbits at 35 day old. with nearly equal live body weight at the beginning of the experiment were randomly allotted to 14 treatment groups, of 10 rabbits each. The seven rabbit groups were reared during the summer season conditions (as the heat stress season), while the other seven groups were reared during the winter season. Within each season, the first group was fed on the control diet (without supplementation), while the second group was fed on the diet supplemented with 100 ?g thyroxin / kg diet, the third was fed on diets supplemented with 50 g thyroxin / kg diet, the fourth was fed diets supplemented with 1.5g methionine /kg diet, the fifth group was fed on diets supplemented with 0.75 g methionine / kg diet, the sixth group was fed on diets supplemented with 1.5g lysine /kg diet.
Rabbits reared during summer season recorded lower live body weight with 8.65% at 8 weeks of the experimental period, also daily body gain, daily feed intake, feed cost, return from body weight, final margin, serum total protein, albumin, globulin and dressing percentage were decreased, while rectal temperature and respiration rate were increased than the rabbits group which reared during the winter season, live body weight at 4 and 8 weeks of the experimental period affected significantly (p<0.001) with dietary feed additives. Daily body gain weight at 0-4 and 0-8 weeks of the experimental period affected significantly (P<0.001) with dietary feed additives. Rabbits experimental period affected significantly (P<0.001) with dietary fed additives. Rabbets fed diet supplemented with 100 ug thyroxin /kg diet recorded higher body weight and gain than other experimental groups at 4 and 8 weeks of the experimental period. Interaction between the year and dietary feed additives were insignificantly affected live body weight and daily gain, while daily feed intake did not affect with feed supplementation, but feed conversion improved by using the feed additives during the whole experimental periods. Within each year season, supplemented feed additives, while reduced the values of fed intake. Feed cost slightly affected by feed additives, while return from body gain and final margin increased. Within each season using the feed additives decreased the feed cost and increased the return from body gain and final margin. Feed additives and the interaction between year and feed additives was insignificantly affected rectal temperature and respiration rate. Serum total protein, albumin, globulin, glucose, total lipids, cholesterol, createinine, SGOT and SGPT concentration insignificantly affected by the dietary feed additives and the interaction between year season and feed additives. The carcass and non carcass components not affected by the dietary feed additives and the interaction between year season and feed additives.
