Bacteriological and immunological studies on Pasteurella multocida in young camel in Matrouh Governorate

Abstract: The study was done on some camels farm in Marsa Matrouh Governorate at the period between May 2006 and May 2007 which showed respiratory manifestations in young camels with increase mortalities. Bacteriological studies revealed that the infection of camels with Pasteurella multocida type B with total percentage, 46.7 %, nasal swabs, 60 % and blood samples, 40 % in clinically infected camels. Where in contact apparently healthy camels, the percentages of isolation were, nasal swabs, 26.7 % and blood samples, 20 %. By ELISA there was 53.3 % whereas 40 % positive of Pasteurella multocida from infected and contact apparently healthy camels, ELISA revealed 60.6 % and 33.3 % cases for Pasteurella multocida in nasal swabs of infected and contact apparently healthy camels. Pasteurella multocida isolates were highly sensitive for tulathomycin. The study concluded that ELISA test more sensitive in detection of clinically infected and apparently healthy camels than traditional cultural methods. The using of tulathomycin in treatment proved highly effect in control the disease.
