Improvement of rabbit's productivity and immunity by probiotic bacteria isolated from suckling mother's soft faeces

Abstract: Three hundred and twenty growing New-Zealand White (NZW) rabbits were used to study the effect of Enterococcus faecalis (E. faecalis) isolated from mother's soft faeces as probiotic dietary supplementation on their productive, physiological and immunological capabilities. The present study lasted 40 days and was carried out during growing period (started from weaning at 30 days till marketing age at 70 days). The animals were divided into two comparable groups (160 growing rabbits in each group). The first group left as control and second is treated with the addition of E. faecalis by sprayed it on the surface of pelleted diet (150 ml of culture per 1000 g diet). The results revealed that, daily body weight gain; feed efficiency and final body weight of growing NZW rabbits were significantly (P<0.05) higher due to treatment with E. faecalis in compared with control ones. Adding E. faecalis to the NZW growing rabbit's diet caused significant (P<0.05) improvement in blood picture and some blood constituents such as plasma total protein and its fractions, aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) enzymes. Feeding diets contained E. faecalis increased significantly (p<0.05) ear thickness response to phytohemagglutinin. It can be concluded that supplementation of E. faecalis to growing rabbit's diet showed a great role in enhancing the growth performance, blood picture and immune system, due to the amelioration of post-weaning stress by continuous offspring contact with benefits microbe isolated from mother's soft faeces.
