Effect of feeding rations containing different levels of concentrate feed mixture and peanut tops silage on productive performance of Rahmani lambs

Abstract: This study was carried out at Regional Center for Food and Feed and El-Gemiza Experimental Station, Animal Production, Research, Institute, Ministry of Agriculture, Egypt. Eighteen Rahmani lambs with initial live body weight 22± l kg were used to study the effect of peanut tops silage <'(SPT) with concentrate feed mixture (CFM) on productive performance of lambs. Lambs were assigned to 3 similar groups (6 in each). The experimental rations were composed of 1st ration (C) control: 60% concentrate feed mixture (CFM) of NRC (1986) requirements+Berssem hay (BH) ad lib. 2rd ration (Tl) 60% CFM of NRC (1986) requirement +SPT ad lib. 3rd ration (T2): 40% CFM of NRC (1986) requirements +SPT ad lib. Three digestibility trials were performed to evaluate the nutritive value of the experimental rations. The results revealed that values of CP & CF of RPT and SPT were 12.1; 13.1 and 25.9, 27.16, respectively. The lambs fed on T1 &T2 rations archived higher daily gain (0.188 and 0.167 kg) than control ration. Data of feed intake indicate that SPT was more palatable than BH. The lambs fed rations T1 and T2 were the most efficient to convert DM to kg gain. The digestibility of various nutrients and nutritive values for the treatments T1 and T2 were higher (P<0.05) than control. It could be concluded that, feeding peanut tops silage with CFM improved lambs performance.
