Pathological studies on the gastrointestinal tract of horses suffered from colic

Abstract: Seventeen Arabian horses from the police Academy with previous signs of abdominal pain (colic before dearth were encountered in this study These horses were divded into six grou[ according to their clinical signs pathological findings bacteriological and parasitological examinations the first group included one horse suffering from impacted colon, the second group included 4 horses suffering from internal haemorrhage and bacterial infection the third group suffered from diaphragmatic rupture and included one horse the fourth group included ione horse suffering from intesinal strangulation obstruction the fifth group consisted of six horses with parasitic infestation associated with bacterial infection the last group consisted of four horses suffering from intestinal torsion the microscopical exmination of the previous groups revealed various histopathological changes mainly gastroenteritis and colitis In addition gastric and intestinal ulceration and in some cases complication with gangrene was observed . Also, most of the exaimined casesshowed intimal mineralized hyaline bodies in most of the blood vessels of the gastrointestinal tract Different stages of parasites were seen in the stomach and intestin in six of the examined cases,
