The problem of agricultural financing is one of the most important problems facing the Egyptian agricultural sector, due to what this sector suffers from the small size of agricultural holdings owned by farmers on the one hand, and their small individual incomes on the other hand. Hence, this study aims to study the problems of agricultural financing in the Arab Republic of Egypt, by getting to know the current situation of agricultural credit in Egypt, and to identify the proposed methods to confront the agricultural financing problems in Egypt. In order to achieve the aforementioned goals, the descriptive and quantitative analysis method was used, represented in the use of the relative importance of the different economic variables, the general temporal trend method, and the directional relationships of the various areas of agricultural lending from the Agricultural Development and Credit Bank that loaned to the agricultural sector during the study period (86 / 1987-2000 / 2001) Study the factors affecting the demand for agricultural loans using the multiple regression method, as well as studying the factors affecting the desire to deal with village banks for the study sample individuals dealing with these banks in Menoufia Governorate using the log-probability model.
The study clarified the current situation of agricultural credit in Egypt, as the average total credit granted to the agricultural sector by the banking system amounted to about 784.6 million pounds, representing about 7% of the average total bank credit of about 110,141.8 million pounds during the study period. As for the commercial banks, investment and business banks, and the Main Bank for Development and Agricultural Credit, they have contributed to financing the agricultural sector by about 1638.3, 251, and 5956.1 million pounds of the average total credit granted to the agricultural sector, which amounts to about 7846.1 million pounds, representing about 20.9%, 3.2% and 75.9%, respectivel.
The general chronological trend showed an increase in the credit granted by various banking agencies annually, as the increase was estimated at 202.2, 31.6, 670 million pounds for each of the commercial banks, investment and business banks, and the Main Bank for Development and Agricultural Credit, with growth rates estimated at 12.3%, 12.6 % And 11.2% of the period average, respectively. This shows that the agricultural sector was not the focus of attention of any of the commercial banks, investment and business banks, due to the interest in non-agricultural commercial and industrial projects.
