Abstract: This study aims mainly to determine: 1)The participation level of respondent farmers in each 9f the following extension activities : extension meetings, Field extension meetings, extension fields and field day. 2) The contribution of some independent variables, which have, significant correlation relationship in interpreting the participation degrees of respondent farmers. 3),The availability of constraints affecting farmers' participation in extension activities. To achieve the study objectives, a systematic random sample of farmers were selected from 8942 farmers in eight villages in Al Gharbia governorate by using (Krejcie and Morgan). The data were collected by personal interviews using pre-tested questionnaire during October November and December 2003. Simple correlation, step-wise, Bans were used for analyzing data statistically, in addition to equencies and percentages.
e results of the study revealed that: First: The participation level of respondent farmers in each of the agricultural extension activities: The participation level of 51.9% of respondent farmers in the extension meetings was relatively high. This level was moderate for 22.8 % but the participation level of 25,3 % of respondents was relatively low. - The participation level of 568% of respondent farmers in the field extension meetings was relatively high. This level was moderate for 16% but the participation level of 27.2 % of respondents was relatively low. The participation level of 56.5% of respondent farmers in the extension fields was relatively high. This level was moderate for 16.6% but the participation level of 26.9 % of respondents was relatively low The participation Level of 59% of respondent farmers in the field day was relatively high. This level was moderate for 8% but the participation level of 28.2% of respondents was, relatively low constraints affected the participation of respondent farmers in the agricultural extension activities. There were important constraints mentioned with percentages ranged between 43.7% and 72.9% of the total sample. These constraint were as follows: Farmers do not know the times of holding extension activities (72.9%), the extension worker do not extend enough information to farmers about the 'extension activities (70.2%), unavailability of time for farmers to participate in the extension activities (66.3%), small farming holding size ( 60.1% ).and implementing the extension activities in the big farms only (53.2%).
