A Comparison Between the Characteristics and Activities of Extensien Agents of the Newly Reclaimed Land and the Old Land of Middle Egypt Governorates

Abstract: Due to the continuous increase in the reclaimed agricultual land with different circumstances ( envicnmental , social , cultural , and economics ) in each of the old valley and new areas , and agricultural extension role in those area is expected to be influenced by the circumstances in each area that make it neeassary to conduct Acomparative study related to role of agricultural extension agents in these areas. . The main findings of the study were as the follouring:
First : The differences in agricultual extension agents, characteristics in each of the new and old agricultual lands
- There was significont a difference between the agricultual extension agents, characteristics in each of the new and old agricultual lands regarding each of : age , origin , residency in thework area , duration of service in agricultual ( Tenure ) , agricultual area supervised by the agricultual extension agents , number of villages supervised by the agricultual extension agents , number of farmers within the area supervised by agricultual extension agents , number of training programs attended by agricultual extension agents , benefit score (degree)of the attended training programs , different training programs needed by agricultual extension agents , technical training programs needed by agricultual extension agents , the need to training programs in general , benefit score of the information sources , His ways of disseminating information , and participation in the local organizations
- There was no significont difference between agricultual extension agents in each of the new and old agricultual lands concerning characteristics of obtained educational qualification , gradution year , specialization in edncotion study , attending training programs , and availability of resources and equibments in the working station.
Second : the differences in activities required for agricultual extension agents performance to their roles in each of the new and old lands
– There were significont differences between agricultual extension agents , the study participents , in each of the new and old lands agricultual extension program planning , agricultual extension program implementation , agricultual extension program evaluation , rural leadership development , and coordination with the local organizations.
Third : Identification of agricultual extension activities levels required for agricultual extension agents performance to their roles in each of the new and old lands
– It was found that percentage of weighted mean regarding importance level of agricultual extension agents activities in the old lands , in a descending order were : agricultual extension programs planning (89.4%) , agricultual extension programs implementation (87.9%) , rural leadership development (86.8%) , coordination with local organizations (83.4%) , and agricultual extension programs evaluation (80.8%)
- It was found that percentage of weighted mean concerning agricultual extension agents activity importance level the new land in a descending order , were : agricultual extension programs implementation (82.3%) , evaluation of agricultual extension programs (81.3%) , development rural leadership (79.8%) , planning agricultual extension programs (77%) , and coordination with local organizations (74.4%)
