Knowledge and Application of Sugar Beet s' Farmers For its Technical Recommendation in some Villages in Menoufiya Governorate

Abstract: This research aimed to identify Sugar Beet Farmer’s knowledge & Application levels to the assigned technical recommendation; identify the relationship between Sugar Beet Farmer’s knowledge & Application levels to the assigned technical recommendations and each of the studied independent variables; identify the variables which contribute significantly in explaining the variance in the Farmer’s knowledge and Application levels to the assigned technical recommendations; and identify problems facing sugar beet s' farmers and their suggestions to solve them. The research was conducted during June 2016 in 4 villages in Menoufiya Governorate where two villages from each of Berket El-Sab'a, Quesna districts, as being the largest districts governorate in terms of area and highest production, were chosen with the same criteria). A questionnaire through personal interviews was used to collect data from 190 farmers representing 20% of total sugar beet s' farmers in research area . Percentages, arithmetic mean, standard deviation, simple correlation coefficient (Person), and stepwise multiple regression analysis were used to analyze data.
The Main research findings were as follow:
1. The degree of Sugar Beet Farmers’ knowledge was 68% to the assigned technical recommendations, while the application degree was 65%, most of the respondents (69.5%) had low and medium knowledge level to the assigned technical recommendation, and most of them (75.8%) had low and medium implementation level to this recommendation.
2. Six independent variables explained that about (69%) from the variance in knowledge level of sugar beet s' farmers to assigned technical recommendations. These independent variables were years of experiences of sugar beet cultivation, educational level, number of used information sources, participation in extension activities, availability of extension service, and Sugar Beet land ownership.
3. The same six independent variables explained about (67%) from the variance in application level of sugar beet s' farmers to the assigned technical recommendations.
4. The most important problems which face sugar beet s' farmers were: late of Sugar Company in receiving of the crop, irrigation problems, unfair estimation of weight and sugar percentage of crop, high costs of seeds and fertilizers. They suggested having their representative in Sugar Company to monitor the estimation of weight and sugar percentage of the crop.
