In vitro evaluation of the effect of some natural sources of peroxidase enzyme on degradation of phenolic compounds in some local feedstuffs

Abstract: Three natural sources of peroxidase enzyme (radish extract, fodder beet extract and whey) at 0, 1,2,3, 4 and 5% levels were evaluated to select the most efficient and suitable level for degradaion of phenolic compounds in three local feedstuffs commonly using in feeding fann animals, (wheat bran (WB), un-decorticated cottonseed meal (UDCSM), sunflower meal (SFM) and their mixture of ratio (1WB:1UDCSM:1SFM).The obtained results revealed that radish extract at 2% level natural source of peroxidase recorded (P<0.05) the maximum IVDMD and IVOMD values with wheat bran compared with other tested levels, while using fodder beet extract at 4% level gave (P<0.05) the highest IVDMD and IVOMD with wheat bran compared with other tested levels. The presented data showed that using whey at 3% level recorded (P<0.05) the maximum IVDMD and IVOMD with wheat bran than other tested levels. Results of IVDMD and IVOMD reached the maximum (P<0.05) when UCSM was treated with 3% radish extract. Both IVDMD and IVOMD reached its maximum values (P<0.05) when UCSM was treated with 2% fodder beet extract, while presented data showed that IVDMD and IVOMD reached its maximum (P<0.05) when whey was used at 2% level with UCSM than other tested levels. Treatment of sunflower meal by radish extract, fodder beet extract and whey at 2% levels recorded (P<0.05) the best results of IVDMD and IVOMD compared with other tested levels.
Results showed that radish extract had (P<0.05) the highest IVDMD and IVOMD when used at 2% level with mixture of the three tested feedstuffs (WB+UDCSM+SFM) compared with other tested levels, while fodder beet extract and whey at 3% level recorded the best values of IVDMD and IVOMD of the mixture compared with other tested levels. Results of total phenol assay indicated that rates of biodegradation of phenol by whey at 2 or 3% were 52-73% ofthe initial phenol concentration in WB, UDCSM and SFM.
